In 2026, we proudly secured the Innovation in Practice award at the Amplify After School Symposium, South Africa’s premier after-school event. We were recognized for our groundbreaking web application, Amabali Champs, which transforms how learners engage with literature. Through the app, students submit reviews of books they’ve read to earn virtual currency, which they can spend at our monthly pop-up markets.

We developed this initiative to bridge the literacy gap in township schools and specifically tackle the challenge of reading for comprehension among Grade 4 learners. The impact was immediate and extraordinary. Since introducing the app, we have seen students voluntarily reading up to 50 books per month—a level of engagement and enthusiasm previously unseen. Amabali Champs isn't just an app; it is a movement fostering a lifelong culture of reading.
