Sikhululekile Reading Development and Life Skills
Established in 2012, Sikhululekile Reading Development and Life Skills emerged from a vision to bridge the educational divide between township schools and those in more affluent areas. Our mission is to empower young learners through literacy, creating opportunities that transform lives through the power of reading and writing.
Our Impact
Based in the Philippi community of Cape Town, we work tirelessly to develop strong reading cultures among primary school learners. Our programs focus on grades 3, 4, and 5, helping students improve their proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English. Through our dedicated after-school programs, we've seen remarkable improvements in academic performance and student confidence.
Our success stories speak volumes:
- 90% of our Grade 4 learners can read fluently without assistance
- 100% of our Grade 5 learners have achieved reading fluency
- Multiple students have advanced to become reading assistants themselves
- Our programs have helped students achieve significant improvements in English FAL, with many scoring between 80-95
